About Our GALS League
In 2011 the GALS celebrated 25 years! Started in 1986 by friends Sue Robertson and Charlene MacKenzie, the eight-team women only league is a great way to meet new friends and get some fresh air at the same time. It all started with a game of catch one warm sunny day at Abbey Lane Public School. The ladies playing catch at the park, quickly gained interest from the community. Ladies from all over Oakville started getting interested as well, especially after ads for the league started going in the local paper. The league became organized with four teams and Charlene MacKenzie became the first president.
The league has not stopped growing since with ladies from West Oak Trails and Glen Abbey (the current league boundaries), making up 8 teams. Many of the husbands have even got involved. They aren`t allowed to compete, but they can cheer from the side lines and offer encouragement. Some also coach the teams.
** OUR BOUNDARIES HAVE EXPANDED !! we are now including South to the QEW, North to Dundas, East to 16Mile Creek and West to Bronte Creek.
Today, games have qualified Umpires, but the league is still about building lasting friendships and support. We play at 16 Hollow Park, Monday to Thursday, with a couple of Saturday games throughout the season .
